A protestor carrying a rainbow flag and wearing a ‘Save Ukraine’ T-shirt invaded the pitch of Portugal’s World Cup group stage match with Uruguay.

The supporter, whose blue top had the Superman logo on the front and the words ‘Respect for Iranian Women’ on the back, entered the field of play during the second half.

The fan was chased by stewards before being removed from the field of play so the match could continue.

The incident comes amid a tournament which has been surrounded by controversy over hosts Qatar’s treatment of the LGBT community as well as anti-government demonstrations in Iran.
