The event will take place from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, on Trailblazer Boulevard, just off University Avenue on the Utah Tech campus, according to a news release from Utah Tech.

The ceremonial lighting of the institution’s 40-foot light tree will take place at 6 p.m. The event is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

“Utah Tech is excited to ring in the holidays with our friends from the greater St. George community at our fifth annual Tree Lighting Celebration,” Valerie De La O, events and promotions coordinator at Utah Tech, said in a news release. “This year, we’re going bigger than ever with activities for the whole family, food and special appearances you won’t want to miss.”

The celebration will include performances from local groups and tractor and carriage rides around campus, as well as holiday booths featuring activities such as decorating gingerbread cookies, creating a mug and making an ornament.

A new booth this year, the Build-a-Bison Workshop, will be open to the first 250 participants to stuff their own Brooks the Bison.

Additionally, characters such as Santa, Mrs. Claus and Brooks the Bison will make appearances and be available for photos, and the first 500 attendees will receive the university’s annual ornament, the first-ever to be Utah Tech. The university’s alumni association will serve hot chocolate, and food will be available for purchase from local food truck vendors.

“We know how important traditions are, especially around the holiday season, and we’re so grateful for the community’s continued support in making this event successful each and every year,” De La O said. “There is no place like St. George for the holidays, and the university is excited to welcome you to campus.”

After the celebration, Utah Tech’s 40-foot light tree, located on campus in the roundabout on Trailblazer Boulevard, and holiday lights will remain lit through New Year’s Day for the community to view and enjoy.
