POMEROY — Law enforcement officials in Meigs County conducted a drug interdiction operation Wednesday leading to two arrests.
Meigs County Sheriff Scott Fitch reported that on Wednesday agents with the Major Crimes Task Force and the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office conducted an interdiction operation in the area of State Route 7 and US 33 in Meigs County.
Agents with the Task Force spotted a vehicle in the area matching that of a known drug trafficker and had received information prior confirming that the individual in the vehicle was enroute back to Meigs County with a shipment of heroin, Fitch said.
Task Force agents confirmed the vehicle and notified Meigs County Sheriff’s Deputies Marty Hutton and Josh Golsby of its whereabouts. Probable cause was obtained for a traffic stop on the vehicle. It was noted that the driver of the vehicle was suspended. A wrecker was called to impound the vehicle and a probable cause search was conducted. Located in the center console of the vehicle inside of a cookie box was approximately 2 ounces of suspected heroin contained in two plastic baggies.
Deputies arrested the driver, Willie Causey, 40, of Middleport, for possession of heroin and trafficking in heroin, both second-degree felonies. The passenger in the vehicle was identified as Zackery Stobart, 26, of Middleport. Stobart was arrested on outstanding warrants out of Meigs County Common Pleas Court. Both subjects were transported to jail awaiting court appearances.

“This is the result of taking a pro-active approach to combating the amount of drugs coming into our county” said Fitch. “We will continue to work hard taking drugs off the streets to make Meigs County a safer place for all of our residents.”
Fitch also praised the hard work of the Southeast Major Crimes Task Force and the deputies at the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office.
The Southeast Major Crimes Task Force is part of the Ohio Attorney Generals Office, Organized Crime Investigations Commission and is comprised of representatives of the Washington, Morgan, Noble, Monroe, Meigs, and Athens County Sheriff’s Offices; the Marietta, Belpre, Middleport, McConnelsville, Nelsonville, and Glouster Police Departments; the Washington, Morgan, Noble, Monroe, Meigs, and Athens County Prosecutor’s Offices; and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
