Louis Edward Mascaro, 81, of West Springfield Mass., formerly of Warren, Pa., passed away on Sunday, Oct.30, at Baystate Hospital in Springfield, Ma.
Louis was born April 7, 1941, in Warren. He was the son of the late Eugene and Helen Mascaro.
Louis graduated from Warren High School in 1959. He earned his B.S. Degree in teaching from Lock Haven University and his M.S. Degree from Ithaca College. His passion for playing football began with the Warren Dragons and he played through college. After his college graduation he played semi-professional football with the Maryland Frederick Falcons. He led his team to a championship win as a quarterback.
Louis lived and raised his family in Red Hook, N. Y.. He retired from the Hyde Park, N.Y. School District teaching elementary school physical education. After teaching, Louis worked in disadvantaged youth programs in Kingston, N.Y., and Mt. Dora, Fla.
Louis’s family will remember him as a family man of integrity. He led with kindness and unconditional love. Louis lived by the motto “We rise by lifting others up.” Louis’s passions were his family, teaching, charity, and his Catholic faith. Louis truly enjoyed his membership in the Church organization, Knights of Columbus, and respected the Knights mission of helping in their community. In 2022, a community garden was established in his honor in West Springfield, Mass. Memory Lane Garden was designed in conjunction with the local senior center, to provide an activity for caregivers and loved ones suffering from Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
Lou is survived by his two daughters: Anne-Marie Mascaro of West Springfield, Mass., and Michelle Mascaro of Keene, NH: his two grandchildren: Aidan Austin and Amelia Austin of Keene, NH; and his three sisters: Joan Tridico and Delores Berry of Warren and Marlene Leonard of Wallkill, N.Y.
Funeral services were performed in Massachusetts. A memorial service will be held at a date to be determined in spring of 2023.
