Hawaii gas prices have held steady over the past week ahead of the busy Thanksgiving travel season, with Kahului’s average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas at $5.26, one cent lower than the previous week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.
Kahului’s average price was eight cents lower than last month but 79 cents higher than a year ago.
It was the second highest in the state after Lihue, where the average price was $5.54, the same as last week. In Honolulu, the average price was $5.17, one cent lower than last week, while Hilo’s average price was $5.05, the same as last week.
Across the state, the average price was $5.20, one cent below last week, while nationwide, the average price was $3.73, seven cents lower than a week ago.
“AAA predicts that residents of Hawaii and other Pacific states will travel in record numbers this Thanksgiving holiday, despite inflation and the highest gas prices ever for this time of year,” Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager, said in a news release Thursday. “After two years of disrupted vacations, consumers are continuing to prioritize precious time with family and friends, and are economizing in other ways if needed to make up for high prices at the pump.”
