Charles “Chuck” F. Smith

WESTFIELD — Charles “Chuck” F. Smith, 86, of Westfield, passed away with family at his side on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2022, at St Vincent Hospital in Erie, Pa.

He was born Sept. 25, 1936, in the town of Stockton, N.Y., the son of the late Ernest Russell and Helen Furlow Smith.

He was a 1954 graduate of Mayville Central School and then went on to earn a degree in Theology from Nyack College in South Nyack, N.Y.

Chuck was the owner and manager of Farr Building Supplies in Westfield N.Y., for 40 years. He was also a carpenter and builder. One of his proudest accomplishments was helping his family to build the Christian & Missionary Alliance (C&MA) Church in Dewittville, N.Y.

He was a member of the C&MA Church in Dewittville, where he had previously served as the treasurer and as an elder and had also been a trustee for the village of Westfield.

Chuck enjoyed hiking, exploring nature, long rides in the country, home improvement and carpentry projects around the house, gardening, watching birds, and most of all, spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Mayer Smith, whom he married Oct. 18, 1958, in Dewittville, N.Y.; three children: Todd Smith, Roxanne Smith and Mark (Billie) Smith, all of Westfield, N.Y.; nine grandchildren: Carolyn (Sam) McVane, Derek (Sierra) Smith, Chandler (Lacie) Smith, Amber (Scott) Leamer, Cassandra (Chris) Cochran, Michael (Ashlee) Paternosh, Chloe Smith, Joseph Smith and Sophie Smith, nine great-grandchildren; Jackson, Charles, Penelope, Oliver, Carter, Emma, Brynn, Ellie and Adelyn; three brothers: Peter Smith, Larry (Marlene) Smith and Chris (Marchella) Bemis; four sisters: Mary Smith, Ruth Frudd, Susan Hindman and Peggy (Joe) Kelwaski; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by a son, Nathan Smith; three brothers: Allen, David and Herb Smith; and three sisters: Kathleen Turpin, Esther Lawson and Alice Francis.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022, at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Dewittville, NY (5821 Meadows Road, Dewittville, NY 14728).

The Rev Terry Davis will officiate. Burial will be in the Dewittville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, 2022, at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville (139 S. Erie St).

Memorial donations can be made to the C&MA Church, (5821 Meadows Rd, Dewittville, NY 14787).
