LAKE CHARLES – McNeese offensive lineman Calvin Barkat and long snapper Trey Vondenstein have been named to the 2022 Academic All-District Football Team, selected by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA), which recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Barkat, a senior from Sachse, Texas, compiled a 3.58 GPA in Health and Human Performance with a concentration in Pre-Chiropractic along with a minor in Sports Medicine.
Vondenstein, a junior from Katy, Texas, compiled a 4.0 GPA in Health and Human Performance with a Masters in Health Promotion.
Barkat recently wrapped up his playing career that saw him garner First Team All-Southland Conference honors. He ended his career with 29 consecutive starts.
Vondenstein appeared in all 11 games for the Cowboys this season at the long snap position for both field goals, extra-points and punts.
The two now advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late December.
